Set up
This part walks you through the setup the stack starts after the quickstart. It has one page per setup step, written in the same words as the setup screens, so you can follow the guide or the product and see one procedure. Every page gives the values to copy and ends with the check that proves the step worked.
It is for the person setting the product up, who is often a Power BI admin and has never registered an app in Microsoft Entra. Two steps need admin rights: the app registrations in Entra, and the tenant settings in Power BI’s admin portal. Microsoft moves its portals around. Where a section follows a Microsoft or provider page, it ends with a Source line that links the page. Each setting is named with what it does, so you can find it if it is renamed.
Open the setup with a one-time link. It works once, for 24 hours:
docker compose exec api server setup-linkOn other platforms, run server setup-link in the api service. The Deploy guides show how.
The ten steps, in the order the product shows them:
- Address: the https address people open.
- The app registration: sign-in and the Power BI connection, in Entra.
- The scanner: a second registration, its security group and the Power BI tenant settings.
- What to sync: which workspaces, and when.
- Sign-in: Google, OpenID Connect providers and passkeys, beside Microsoft.
- Who gets in: roles, and who sees a dataset’s description.
- Search: OpenAI, Gemini or none.
- Agents: the MCP address and the command line.
- First sync: read the tenant for the first time.
- Security: the checklist.
When a check does not pass, go to When a check fails: every sentence a check can show, with its cause and the one fix. Start with the quickstart if the stack is not running yet.
